I pulled all of the spare parts off once I was okay with the results. Your motorcycle engine intake system may have developed air leaks (vacuum leak) and allows more than the required air. This cause of the backfire can be corrected by the adjustment of the air or fuel screw. Adjustment of an air or fuel screw is disturbed. Here is the video I found again not the process that I used as it is more permanent, but you can get a better idea as to what I did from it from watching the video. Action for eliminating backfire on acceleration. The cool thing that I liked about the way I did this is that it was nothing that had to be permanent, you can put it back to stock if you find it does not work, I found a video on it that someone posted but their process looks permanent to me, I used the copper gasket seal and a 10mm bolt then covered with a rubber vacuum plug, worked perfectly. I could be completely wrong in this theory, I do not profess to be a mechanic, Engineer sure, Mechanic no. My guess is that when you are downshifting that your getting unspent fuel in the pipes and this fuel is being sucked into the Carb and this is causing the backfire. I found in my case that this worked perfectly and all of the backfires were removed. These tubes were designed to vacuum suck what little excess fuel vapor out of the exhaust and put them back into the carb, anything left over goes to the little black box to evaporate on its own. I then used copper silicon and 10mm bolt to seal the holes left by the breather/vacuum tubes. On my 06 1100, there is a breather emission box that Yamaha installed for CA emissions, not sure about the rest of the Country. ![]() Today seems to be air/fuel ratio day on the starbikeforums :^) If you can find ethanol free regular somewhere, that should make it pop less, because 100% gasoline has more energy than 90% gas and 10% ethanol.įor now if you want it to stop popping while engine braking, crack the throttle open just a bit. ![]() The fact that its worse with 91 points to being lean - Premium fuel has less energy than regular, so if the bike is tuned for regular it will run lean on premium Ive tried running injector cleaner and cleaning the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Why Mechanics Assistant: Are you fixing your Explorer yourself What have you tried so far I am. ![]() Les is correct that its caused by fuel in the exhaust, and it seems to be backwards to say that is caused because the mixture is too lean, but usually that is what happens if you change the exhaust and intake and do not increase the fuel to air ratio. My 2006 Ford Explorer dies while coming to a stop or making a turn. When you engine brake in gear with the throttle off, if the engine is lean there may not be enough fuel in the mixture to fire, that fuel goes out the hot exhaust, where it burns and pops If you changed the exhaust and the intake, and you did not change the jets in the carb, or the fuel mapping on a fuel injected bike, then your engine is running lean
